September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month.
This month Campaigning for Cancer is raising awareness around Multiple Myeloma (MM), a blood cancer that affects plasma cells, a type of white blood cell found in the bone marrow (the word myeloma comes from a Greek word meaning marrow). It’s not curable, but patients can live for far longer than they used to with stem cell transplants and cutting-edge medication – but these treatments are shockingly expensive.
